So i was outside today trying to change the oil on my mom's van ,Honda Odyssey, but I can't get the drain plug to loosen or even move at all. The bolt is pretty much stripped now and i've tried vice grips and WD-40 with no luck. I also tooked it to pepboys and they didn't want to do the oil change because of the stripped plug. :firemad::thumbsdow:shooting:

I'm out of ideas guys, is there a way to get the plug out? I've a new plug in hand to replace the stripped one.

wellllll...

fro stripped botls as such i heat the up glowing red, not melting or cutting it though, just so its nice and soft. Then bang a smaller socket thean the nut is onto it. let it cool completely. then turn

of course that being you have a oxy/acete torch hndy.. which in that case you prob would have alredy used it. I would recommend in the future make sure your sockets are on very well, (hammer), and use a proper breaker bar. A smaller leverage wrench can easily strip a bolt where as using a proper length bar would easily back it out.

Several options:

-Hammer on a slightly small socket and use a breaker bar.
-Progressively drill it out until the bolt breaks.
-Leave the old bolt alone then drill and tap a new hole for the bolt somewhere else on the pan.

Not really feasible to just drill and tap a new hole. There isnt enough thickness to mowt pans to do so. Metal pans have a welded bung, alloy pans a beefier section of the casting.

if you dont have 1. than lock it on the bolt put a pipe 2ft long over the handle to extend it and just pull..... its a handy tool, plumbers use it to lock round pipes it will do magic:thumbsup: on stripped bolts .

Pipe wrench will probably do it, but a set of extractor sockets will cost about the same and be more versatile for future stubborn bolts.
